What is Drivers CPC?

What is Driver’s CPC? The Driver Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC) is a qualification for professional bus, coach and lorry drivers. It was introduced across Europe to improve road safety. You must have the full Driver CPC if you drive a lorry, bus or coach as the main part of your job. Every 5 years drivers must take 35 hours of Driver CPC training to keep driving professionally. Training must be undertaken in the country of normal work/occupancy.

Driver CPC aims to improve road safety by helping drivers of buses, coaches and lorries obtain, maintain and develop their professional skills and knowledge.

Warning! You can be fined up to £1,000 for driving professionally without Driver CPC.

We are members of the JAUPT-approved Driver CPC Consortium.

The Driver CPC (Certificate of Professional Competence) is a European Union-wide Training Directive which was introduced “to maintain high driving standards and improve road safety”.

For bus and coach drivers, the Driver CPC started on 10th September 2008, for lorry drivers, the Driver CPC starts on 10th September 2009. GOV. The UK has released a new guide with updated information about becoming a lorry or bus driver. Click here to view this updated guide.

What is drivers CPC

New drivers from the above dates will need to pass the Driver CPC in addition to the theory and practical tests if they wish to drive professionally.

Holders of a PCV or LGV licence before the start dates will be able to continue driving professionally based on acquired rights. They will then have to undertake 35 hours of periodic training. Which must be completed within 5 years from the start date to renew their Driver CPC.

You’ll get your Driver Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC) card after 35 hours of periodic training. The card is sometimes called a ‘driver qualification card or ‘DQC’.

You must carry this card professionally while driving a lorry, bus or coach.
